When you think of eating in a mall the first thing that comes to mind are scary images of an over crowded, fast food disaster ‘food court’ (at least that is what I picture). To my surprise, there are actually a number of good restaurants in the Rio malls, which makes doing ‘dinner and a movie’ a much more pleasant experience. I recently discovered IX Bistro in Shopping da Gavea, a cute comfortable restaurant tucked away on the 3rd fl. Once you are seated and browsing the extensive wine list you will completely forget you are actually in a mall! With high ceilings, bottles of wine lining the walls, and dim lighting IX Bistro provides a nice intimate setting. The menu offers a number of risottos, pizzas and of course the French bistro classics like steak frites.
I was debating the duck risotto, which I was told is very good but went with the truffle stuffed chicken that came with pasta in a mustard sauce(above)…I 100% made the right decision, it was phenomenal! The pizza was pretty good, too, but in all honesty, anything containing truffle always seems to win me over:) Since my dinner was so deliciously filling I opt’d for chocolate chip ice cream for dessert instead of one of the tarts or cakes (they looked amazing but I was just too full).
I mentioned the extensive wine list above, but they also have the Enomatic, an Italian machine that serves wines by the glass at doses of 30ml, 60ml or 120ml (Cavist has this too!). It is great because it allows you to try a few different wines.
For your next ‘dinner and a movie’ night, skip the buckets of popcorn and ‘class it up’ at IX Bistro in Shopping da Gavea.
