Fun fact: Sao Paulo has the largest Japanese population next to Japan and you know what that means right? You guessed it, you will find lots of awesome Japanese restaurants in Sao Paulo. Since I was in Sao Paulo last week and staying in Itaim Bibi my friend recommended I try ‘the best sushi spot in Itaim’ Nagayama Sushi. He wasn’t kidding when he said the restaurant was very popular and that I should arrive on the earlier side, as there was already a decent wait around 8pm. Don’t worry, you are in Brazil so order a drink and hang outside while you wait for your table. I have to point out that on Rua Bandeira Paulista there are 4 Japanese restaurants in a row, Nagayama being in the middle so make sure you are waiting at the right restaurant:)
The restaurant itself is quite small, there isn’t much to the decor as the main focus here truly is the sushi. FYI if you are interested in having that ‘authentic feel’ there are two tables that offer ‘on the floor seating’. They start you off with a refreshing cucumber and seaweed salad while you look over the menu which offers the traditional noodle dishes and of course the freshest sushi. I can tell you that the tuna was superb. There are some ‘off the menu’ items that I was too full to try, but sounded awesome so when you go to Nagayama you will have to post your thoughts on those ‘special’ dishes!
