As you know I am a huge fan of the graffiti culture in Brazil, so I was ecstatic when I stumbled upon the Il Bienal International Graffiti Fine Art exhibit at Nova Cultural this past weekend. Nova Cultural is an outdoor sculpture -art park with 2 galleries, 2 restaurants, a cinema and home to antique fairs on the weekends (seriously awesome place). I highly recommend checking it out on a weekend to explore the current exhibits, pick up some antiques and have a nice buffet lunch (the salad was delicious). Back to the art..
The goal of the Il Bienal International Graffiti Fine Art is to provide an overview of the most diverse styles, techniques and concepts of graffiti, by national and international artists recognized in the urban art world. Inspired by the success of Graffiti Fine Art shows, the MuBE (Brazilian Museum of Sculpture) created the Graffiti Fine Art Biennial International to showcase the diversity and quality of street art in 2010. Since then it has been gathering the biggest names in street art from around the world to showcase in in Brazil and I must say this exhibit did not disappoint. I spent the whole day admiring the works of some of the greatest urban artists in the world and was fortunate to meet Cartograffiti (one of Sao Paulo’s leading artists) who has mapped all of his works across Sao Paulo making it easy for you to see them (can’t wait to give myself that tour)! Check out some of the best street art:
What piece is your favorite? If you are looking for things to do in Sao Paulo, spending a weekend in the city I highly recommend visiting Nova Cultural and exploring the latest exhibit. Its a perfect Sat/Sun morning or afternoon in the city.
Want more graffiti coverage?? Keep checking back, there is a lot more to come!
