Contemporary Thai and Bahian cuisine at Mestico

I love Thai food and I am a fan of Bahian dishes but together? Great combinations brought to you by Mestico, located in Consolacao serving contemporary Thai cuisine with a touch Bahian flavors in the mix.  The restaurant itself is quite interesting, the front area has small tables so you can order some drinks and snacks while you wait (yes there is always a wait so plan accordingly!).  Inside the walls are covered with all sorts of different art which you can purchase, this makes the restaurant part rotational art gallery (below).  They try to be trendy with a weird blue light sculpture in the back which I think looks more tacky then trendy but that’s just my opinion.

There is a long list of inventive drinks, I recommend any of them serves with red fruits (I had two and they were delicious), for wine lovers, Mestrico offers a great wine list that is reasonably priced (for Sao Paulo).  Start with the Krathong thong, a delicious crunchy pastry filled with spicy Thai chicken, corn and some chili dust (below). They are so good you will want to order more then one round of them!

Another good appetizer for the table to share is the micrab (below), diced up chicken and veggies that you scoop onto an endive leaf.

This is one of those restaurants where it is good for everyone to share dishes as opposed to keeping a dish all to yourself.  Everything we ordered was very good and the portions were quite large as you can see below.  For Brazil, the pad Thai was pretty good.  Obviously nothing compares to Jaya, which serves the best Pad Thai in NYC.

I highly recommend the Thai curry chicken with pumpkin (below), it is spiced just right and served with coconut rice= perfection!

If you are craving fish, try the Ipanema (below) sea bass with ginger orange sauce, spinach and grilled peach palm palm.

The Ipanema

For the dessert lovers… they have a variety of ice creams and sweets to choose from.  Go with one of the sundaes and you won’t regret it! I want to hear from YOU, if you have dined here or are planning to, let me know what you think of it:)
