If you are in the area of Ubatuba and like hiking to waterfalls, add a visit to Cachoeira Tombador to your list. The hotel arranged for us to go with a guide which was a smart decision as it is a little tricky to find the entrance, then once you do its a windy trail through back country and Atlantic Forest. The scenery is incredible, you will pass by rustic houses without electricity, some lakes, cassava plantations (where many manufacturing homemade flour to sell at the market and trades), lots of fruits (bananas, pineapples etc) and even some coco trees. We also saw some iguanas, lizards and tons of different birds.
The hike itself is not that difficult and the view once you make it to the top is worth it! In each of the three falls that make up the large Tombador waterfall natural pools are formed so make sure you wear your bathing suit! It is fun to splash around and cool off after the hike. The hotel made a picnic for us to bring and eat at the top of waterfall which was the perfect end to our hike. What was also pretty awesome, we were the only people there so it we had the whole waterfall and pool to ourselves:)
