Guide to Visconde de Maua

viewHow to get to Visconde de Maua: Car or bus. Access the Presidente Dutra Highway, between the municipalities of Itatiaia and Resende, exit 311 Penedo / Viscount of Maua in Rio de Janeiro state.  After leaving the Via Dutra, follow signs Viscount of Maua. After 26km of paved road you will reach the village of Viscount Maua. For the rest of your trip/ other areas of the region: Arriving in Maua, after passing in front of the church, go left following the signs Maringá and access the next exit right after the bridge.  FYI most of the roads are unpaved, dirt, mud, rocks etc, if you can best way to travel is in a truck (definitely had a few scares of literally rolling down the mountains), something you want to avoid.

Cachoeiras do Alcantilado: Leaving the Village of Viscount Maua, after the only petrol station in the area between the first right. Cross the bridge Gavea, turn right again. After 1 km you will find the viewpoint of Alcantilado. Over 2 km to your left is the road that leads to waterfalls. Proceed over the bridge and drive  500m, the entrance gate of the farm will be on your left.  Read more HERE

Vale da Santa Clara: Between the villages of Maromba and Maringa just across the bridge proveitar.

Cachoeira da Santa Clara: The waterfall of Santa Clara is one of the tallest waterfalls in the region of known and Viscount of Maua, there is a natural pool at the bottom and it is great for rappelling. It has easy access for those on Maromba, or in the valley of Santa Clara, this gives points to go take a walk, for those who are in Maringá is better to go by car (5 km.)  a 40-minute walk north of Maringá on the Ribeirão Santa Clara.  FYI the roads are terrible so you want a something with 4wheel drive!

Toca da Raposa: Park the car and take a short 5 min walk, cross a bridge and you are there! Borboleta is a few meters from da Toca da Raposa .

Cachoeira da Prata: In the village of Mirantão, followed by the Silver Valley Road, (4 km) are the waterfalls of Silver. In the middle of the forest and it provides a panoramic view of the landscape. Behind the veil of one of the falls is a cave that Puris Indians, the first inhabitants of the region, used as a refuge.

Cachoeira da Fumaça: From the town of Maua, follow the road to Campo Alegre. They are about 30 km of beautiful landscapes, always bordering the Black River. The Smokey Falls is 200 feet waterfall. A little further on is the village of Smoke, a hamlet extremamento quiet and cozy.

Poço do Marimbondo: In Valley Peacock, take a drive up to where the road permits and go from there on foot, on a steep trail down to the waterfall. Hidden in the woods, a pool is formed by nature. The depth is great and the greenish color of the water for a long time, gave the name of the waterfall Poço das Esmeraldas.
